{2001 Goodman Gas Pack - Downstairs} — Customer reported that the touchscreen thermostat display was active but would not respond to commands; tech replaced batteries and observed the same condition. Customer approved installing a Focus Pro 5000 thermostat, with backplate upon request. — Tech installed batteries with no common wire available. — Upon first ignition in heat mode, equipment ran for approximately 10 minutes before opening the high limit switch. Tech found panel insulation in the blower compartment obstructing airflow and removed. Observed normal operation, confirmed amp draws and blower capacitor reading. Inspected heat exchanger, noting no concerns. — Advised customer of equipment age and condition, recommending a system replacement if a major repair is needed. — Customer invested in a premium service agreement for the downstairs system, paid monthly. System is operating normally at this time. Tech recommends scheduling first service visit in the following weeks.

{Dryer Vent Cleaning} — Tech cleaned approximately 12’ full length of dryer vent, vent cap, and flex with brush. Flushed with nitrogen and resealed vent cap. — Advised customer not to operate the dryer for at least four hours to allow sealant to solidify. — Customer is not interested in a service agreement under the premise of selling the home soon. Systems operating normally at this time.

Tech found head pressure extremely high. Tech found installation manual shredded and imbedded in blower wheel. Bypass damper is set very low. Main downstairs zone damper is stuck closed. Tech removed shredded manual from blower wheel. Turned up static pressure bypass damper and removed failed zone damper motor so downstairs zone is forced open. Customer will talk to the builder about damper. Customer declined maintenance.

Tech confirmed could not get 24 volts to outdoor unit to power defrost board, reversing valve, and contactor. Tried several combinations of spare thermostat conductors without success. Tech left power off to indoor and outdoor units. Per Sebastian, we will return tomorrow to pull thermostat wire. Install warranty.

Tech found 25 year old outdoor unit not running due to a failed 25/5uf dual run capacitor and an outdoor fan motor seized up. Customer reports fan motor was recently replaced last year by another company. Tech hand freed 1/6hp 1650 rpm outdoor fan and noticed water dripping out of it. There is no rubber grommit where fan wires enter motor to keep moisture out. Contactor is buzzing loudly. Tech hand freed motor and replaced capacitor for testing and found system back cooling. Tech highly recommends system replacement due to age and condition. Put price for contactor under estimates. Lauren is checking on price for Trane fan motor. Called in mandatory.

Mrs Chorzepa described system working intermittently when we had the first snow. Says she has had both thermostats off since Wednesday. Tech initially called for heating and recorded refrigerant pressures. Tested defrost and reversing valve switched over very slowly and improperly. Compressor hesistated to start under load during defrost and took 5 or more seconds to start. Once head pressure built up during defrost, reversing valve gradually switched over. When terminating defrost, reversing valve stayed fast in the cooling position. Tech tried tapping on valve. Solenoid is responding correctly electrically, but faulty reversing valve is sticking and not shifting correctly from heat to cool and back. Tech left disconnect for outdoor unit off and both thermostats in emergency heat. Air handler and zoning components appear to be operating properly. Will have office follow up. Install warranty. System installed 1 year ago.
