Tech found blown 60 amp fuse inside 3 phase disconnect for large outdoor unit on left side of back building (CU#3 serial #RRWA). System is a 12 year old 10 ton split system. Tech ohmed compressor and got ground continuity in the megohm scale with multimeter and megohmmeter. Tech unplugged compressor and replaced fuse for testing. Outdoor fan motor is overamping. Rated at 5.0 amps and pulling 6.0 amps with door on. 6.5 amps with door off. Blower and heat strips are operational. Plugged compressor back in with new fuse and tested system. System does run, but tech suspects fuse will blow again due to compressor megohms to ground. Tech recorded refrigerant pressures and amp draws. Put thermostat into emergency heat mode for the time being so fuse doesn't blow. Tech recommends replacing compressor and outdoor fan motor or entire system. Will have office follow up on commercial mandatory lead. Compressor and fan motor replacement will require two techs, ordering both OEM filter driers and a

Tech found a shorted compressor contactor. Tech advised the homeowner that ecobee thermostats are liable to malfunction after a short occurs. Tested system in heat afterward and assured that the ecobee does send proper signal to either operate and shut off when satisfied in temperature. Customer approved today’s repairs. Customer is not interested in maintenance plan at this time.
