Winter is coming — It’s important to be able to keep your home comfortable. Unfortunately, heating your home can cost a lot of energy and money. However, there are ways of maximizing your home comfort while minimizing your energy usage by investing in a smart heating system.
Here are two smart systems to consider:
Programmable Thermostat
A programmable thermostat allows you to regulate your home’s temperature automatically, based on your family’s schedule. When everyone’s at home, it keeps the house at your ideal comfort level. But when the adults are at work and the kids are at school, it switches to an energy-saving mode, a few degrees cooler, so you’re not paying to heat an empty house.
There are also settings for nights, while you’re asleep, and vacations, when you plan to be gone for a long stretch. You can program your schedule into the thermostat, and it will adjust accordingly to maximize energy savings.
You can even invest in a Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat that lets you change your temperature settings from anywhere, so you don’t come home to a cold house. It can even adjust the temperature based on local weather reports.
Zoned Heating/Cooling
Another great smart heating option is zoning. Particularly if you have a large house with multiple levels, getting your whole house comfortable can be difficult. The first floor may be perfect, but the second floor is too hot, and the basement is too cold. Different family members in different areas end up in a thermostat war, constantly readjusting the settings and wasting energy. That’s because the entire home temperature is controlled by a single thermostat in a single room.
A zoning system separates your house into sections based on their individual heating and cooling needs, and gives each one its own thermostat. Too much heat in zone one? Reroute it to zone two, which is still cold. This way, everyone stays comfortable, without using as much energy.
